Comfort Avovabey is a Certified Nurse Midwife with more than 30 years of combined nursing and midwifery experience in Ghana and the United States. Her passion for caring for others began early, serving as a child Red Cross volunteer providing first aid during school events. She later trained as both a nurse and midwife in Tamale, Ghana, and went on to become a nurse educator through the University of Ghana.
After moving to the U.S., Comfort completed additional nursing training at Northern Virginia Community College, earned her BSN from George Mason University in 2003, and received her Master of Science in Nursing and Education in 2008. She completed her postgraduate midwifery certification in 2020 and has been a Certified Nurse Midwife since 2022.
Comfort’s clinical experience includes years as an RN beginning in 2002 and CNM roles at Inova Fairfax and Inova Loudoun. She provides prenatal care, postpartum care, family planning, annual exams, and labor support. Her approach is grounded in partnership – meeting patients where they are, discussing options openly, and ensuring care aligns with each person’s needs and goals.
She speaks English, Twi, Hausa, and conversational Spanish. Outside of work, Comfort enjoys traveling, cooking, and contributing to the development of a women’s health clinic in Ghana.
