Jocelyn Medrano, CNM, is a certified nurse midwife with a passion for women’s health, evidence-based care, and helping patients feel informed and supported throughout their healthcare journey. She was drawn to midwifery by the opportunity to help women feel heard, respected, and empowered during some of the most meaningful and vulnerable moments in their lives.
Jocelyn’s approach to care centers on shared decision making, patient education, and honoring each patient’s voice. She believes patients should understand their options, know the evidence behind their care, and feel confident that they are active participants in every decision. Whether supporting pregnancy, birth, gynecologic care, or hormone health, Jocelyn strives to create a space where patients feel comfortable asking questions and advocating for themselves.
Her interest in midwifery was shaped in part by her great-aunt, who was a traditional midwife in Cusco, Peru. It was also influenced by the birth stories of women in her own family and community, many of whom remembered feeling overwhelmed, uninformed, or unheard during their care. Those experiences inspired Jocelyn’s commitment to helping patients feel educated, supported, and in control of their healthcare decisions.
Before becoming a midwife, Jocelyn worked for several years as a cardiac nurse at Inova Alexandria Hospital. She also spent time in Cusco, Peru, working with a church and pediatric mobile clinic that served rural and indigenous communities with limited access to healthcare. After hearing the stories of mothers and women in those communities, Jocelyn felt called to pursue midwifery and deepen her work in women’s health.
Jocelyn grew up in Northern Virginia and enjoys caring for the diverse communities of the region, including immigrant families and children of immigrants. She is bilingual in English and Spanish and values the ability to provide care in a patient’s preferred language whenever possible.
Outside of medicine, Jocelyn enjoys running, singing, musical theater, karaoke, and staying involved with her church community. She also enjoys spending time with her 11-year-old Chihuahua, Rusty, affectionately known as Rustito.
